Don't Keep Them Tucked Away--Put Those Airplanes On Display!

Posted on

Collecting models is a popular hobby that has persisted even as many other things in our society have changed. Whether you have one or one hundred diecast models, you likely want to display them so that everyone can enjoy them. Don't leave them tucked away; put those airplanes on display.

There are many different ways you can display your model airplanes. Some ways may require you to spend some money, while others may require you to do a bit more of the legwork. Below are some ideas and tips for displaying your models.

First, you will need to determine where you are going to display your limited edition diecast model planes. The sky is the limit as long as you make sure that your models will not be on a display in a location that is prone to humidity and drastic temperature changes. For example, you may want to rethink storing your planes in your garage. Not only are garages likely to have these changes, but your models are also likely to get dusty and dirty in there.

Once you've decided where you'd like to display your planes, it is time to check out your options.

Wall Mount—You can purchase wall mounts online or at some hobby stores. These mounts have a base that attaches to the wall and an arm that comes out. The plane attaches to the end of the arm. Wall mounts come in different sizes and lengths to accommodate many sizes and styles of planes.

Wood Base—If you don't want to hang your plane up but would prefer to display it on a desk or shelf, a base is a good choice. A common material for a base is wood. Wood is sturdy and looks good. Similarly to the wall mount, these bases have an arm that extends that you place the plane on.

Glass Display Cases—If you are looking for a way to display your model but also protect it from unwanted touches or accidental bumps, a display case may be what you are looking for. These will likely run a bit more money than other types of display options, but they can be purchased in a variety of sizes and can be mounted if you desire.

Hang from the Ceiling—Since airplanes fly, you may want to display your model plane in its natural habitat—the sky. There are many ways to do this, and it will likely require some work on your end. You will need hooks or anchors that you are able to attach to the ceiling and fishing wire or something similar that you will use to attach the plane to the anchor.

During the process (and after) be sure not to use anything that will leave a chemical residue on your plane, such as adhesives, sprays, and solvents. Whether your diecast model airplanes are vintage, limited edition, or new, displaying them in a safe and aesthetic manner is important. With your models on display, you will keep the tradition of collecting models alive and will spark interest in everyone who sees them.
