Ten Tips When Packing For Your Upcoming Cruise

Posted on

Heading out on a cruise? Packing for a cruise can be challenging, and it always seems that more is brought than is needed.

Ten tips when packing for your cruise are:

1. Get yourself a garment bag. Using garment bags saves you the time and effort of ironing when you get on the ship; furthermore, many cruise lines prohibit irons on-board. Don't risk wrinkles; use a garment bag!

2. Roll, don't fold. When you are putting clothing in a regular suitcase, roll your garments. Rolling instead of folding saves space in your bags.

3. Pack a little freshness. Add fresh dryer sheets between the layers of clothes in your suitcase, garment bag, and carry-on. This will keep your clothing smelling fresh, even after a long day of travel.

4. Do a packing dry-run. After you are packed, pack again. When you pack twice, you might be able to eliminate a few things and save some space. It seems that people always over-pack for a cruise!

5. You can never be too safe when packing liquids. Watch liquids when packing and always wrap each bottle or tube individually in plastic bags. Bring a few extra for the trip home, too.

6. Invest in collapsible cubes. Invest in a couple of collapsible storage cubes to slide in the end of your suitcase or garment bag to use on the ship. These are helpful for keeping stuff organized in the room, and they take up very little space in your bag.

7. Carry what you need. You never know what can happen when traveling, so keep your must-haves in a carry-on or large purse. This includes things like a change of clothes, eyeglasses, medications, and your phone charger.

8. Distinguish your bags from all others. Make sure to distinguish your bags from others by tying ribbon to the handles or adding stickers to the sides. This will make it a lot easier to identify your bag in the cruise terminal when claiming your luggage.

9. Choose a color scheme. Try packing according to a color scheme. This will allow you optimal mixing-and-matching, while also keeping your bags light.

10. Don't sweat it; buy it! Forget to pack something? Don't sweat it—buy what you left behind! Cruise ships typically offer anything that a traveler will need, so it is not the end of the world if you leave your swimsuit, aspirin, or earplugs at home when you leave on your trip!

Use these tips when you are packing for your upcoming cruise. This ensures you have what you need, without packing too much!
